Top 5 tips for mastering multiplication

Mathematics is fundamental to our understanding of the world, and at the heart of our daily lives.

With the fundamentals of mathematics knowledge being addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication, having basic mathematics skills will prepare for the mathematics calculations that pop up through the course of our day at home, at the shops, at school, at work and when out with friends.
There are different approaches people use when learning multiplication including memorising multiplication times tables and /or learning through concept understanding. No matter which gives you the best success, once you get the hang of it, you’ll discover just how fun multiplication can be.
Here are our top 5 tips for mastering multiplication

1. Practice makes perfect
Practice saying each multiplication times table set out loud. Saying something out helps your brain memorise it better.

2.Repetition rewards
Write your multiplication times tables down with pen on paper a handful of times. Repetition helps reset old memory patterns and reintroduce new ones.

3.Add a rhyme, rhythm or tune
Why not add a rhyme, rhythm or tune to your times tables to make learning them more fun. Fin and learning go hand in hand, so give it a try and see how it works for you.

4.Find patterns in each times table:
Multiplying by 2 means adding the same number to itself
5 times tables always end in 0 or 5
When you multiply 6 by an even number they both end in the same digit.
6×2=12 ,6×4=24,6×6=36,6×8=48

5.Buddy up
Ask a family member or friend to practice with you. Add a little friendly competition and cheer each other on each time you memorise a set. Once you’ve mastered your multiplication sets, take it up a level and mix them around. Before you know it, you’ll be masters at multiplication!
